THE ARTWORK OF STEFAN THOMPSON EXPLAINED BY THE ARTIST HIMSELF.

Cloudcat is a paper collage made around the same time as Hoodriver. I called it cloudcat because of the whispy cat on the bottom right.
'2Fish' © 2012 / S. Thompson
2fish was completed on Cortes Island, in the late fall. The paper was first primed with wax, then i brushed on hot wax. Then i applied soot, you get really interesting patterns in the soot when applying it to thick wax. The lines are done with oil paint.

I was living on Cortes Island, and i had run out of large pieces of paper.I use a lot of recycled material and try not to buy much. So i sorted through the dumpster
at the local grocery store in Whaletown. I gathered a bunch of smoke cartons and glued them together
with other scrap bits of paper. I dried them behind my friends woodstove, as i was watching her house
and watching her lovely orange cat. They are rather heavy pieces. After it was all dry i rubbed on a layer of thick beeswax, and then whent to town burning holes in it, then cutting pieces off and adding homemade oil paints.
''WOLFINSIDE' © 2011 / S. Thompson
Wolfinside was completed in the later summer of 2011. The face of the piece had been part of an installation i made the previous winter. So i pretty much made a semi 3d version of the sculpture on a stretcher frame. I made the face out of pantyhose, that i stuffed and then pulled thread through, a technique i learned from my Mom ! The canvas of the cloak used to be white but now has nice textures on it cause it, I left out in the woods for a number of years before i brought it home and started playing with it.
